Demolition
The challenge facing our demolition team is to bring buildings down in a controlled, safe and efficient manner. Extensive safety training programmes are run under the direction of a specialist health and safety manager to ensure that all operatives are trained to the highest standards available.
Thompsons has experience and expertise in all types of demolition - manual, mechanical, by explosives and in controlled environments - and at all sorts of locations. The company is a licensed asbestos remover and can also remove radioactive material. As such we have recently become a member of ARCA (Asbestos Removal Contractors Association ) which compliments our long standing membership of the NFDC ( National Federation Of Demolition Contractors ).
360° excavators can be fitted with attachments including a long-reach arm extending over 90ft. Other plant includes tracked and wheeled loading shovels, dozers, dumptrucks, concrete crushers, tipper wagons and articulated bulk tippers.
Major contracts in recent years have included demolition of:
- A seven-span railway bridge in Stafford
- A 1 -storey tower block in Hebburn, Tyne & Wear
- The former Binns Store in the centre of Newcastle
- Six tower blocks in Blackburn
- An 81/2- acre railway yard to make way for a luxury housing development beside the Tyne in Gateshead
- A motorway bridge on the Wirral.
