St Andrews House is located in the heart of Glasgow City Centre, a 17 storey former office building with mixed development retails unit as the ground level. Thompson’s have been appointed to strip the building back to its concrete frame in order for the building to be converted into a hotel.
[Read Story...]SUNDERLAND CENTRAL CAR PARK (JACKY WHITES MARKET)
Sunderland Central Car Park is one of Thompson\'s most challenging projects, the car park is located above Jacky Whites Market which is to remain open during the demolition of the car park. In order to keep the market open and protect the public a transfer deck was installed at the first level of the car park, 250 tons of steel was placed within the car park along with over a 1000 props to hold the structure. Mini machines were then lifted onto the roof of the car park using the tower crane that was erected for the duration of the project. The machines will then begin to demolish the structure and all debris will be removed using skips that are lifted down with the tower crane and loaded on to wagons to be recycled at our waste disposal site.

The demolition of the infamous Gateshead "Get Carter" Car Park (as part of the Trinity Square Development) commenced at 09:00 on 27/7/10 following extensive preparatory works. Thompsons newly acquired Komatsu 750 super high reach 360o excavator machine will assist our Caterpillar 350 high reach machine to demolish the car park, working top to bottom in a pre-determined sequence. Thompsons have recently completed the dismantling of Ore Un-loader No.1, located at Corus UKs Redcar Wharf. The Ore-Unloader weighed approximately 1500 tonnes and stood at a height of 66m. The structure was dismantled into sections using oxy/propane hot cutting equipment. The sections, each weighing approximately 65t, were lifted from their resting position via the aid of a 1000 tonne crane and transferred into a processing area at ground level.
