Dismantling of Triple Flare Stack - Corus

The triple flare stack is located on the boundary of the former Stretford Plant working area (which was cleared of process plant and equipment by Thompsons in 2008).  The flare stack is located directly adjacent to the new (and operational) flare stack.  The works were extensively planned to ensure the structure could be safely dismantled without impeding on the adjacent plant and structures and without risk to operatives and Corus personnel.

Working under the direction of their Site Manager, Barry Brewis, operatives will use hand demolition techniques to first prepare and then carefully reduce the Flare Stack into sections, working top to bottom.  Each section will be carefully removed to a defined laydown area at ground level using a mobile crane.  Once at ground level the Flare Stack sections will be processed using a demolition spec 360o excavator machine.
