WESTGATE HOUSE
Works are continuing on Westgate House to complete demolition for the Christmas Holiday period. Thompson's are working closely with all stakeholders, including Newcastle City Council, our Client (One North East) and the project Planning Supervisor (WSP).
Demolition commenced with the reduction of the properties roof structure (12th floor). Our demolition methodology utilises controlled hand demolition methods (to remove and reduce the concrete facia panels) and remote operated mini excavator machines (to reduce the roof slab).
Works continued with the reduction of the 11th floor Plant Room. Each of the top two floors were a unique construction, and as demolition progresses onto the 10th floor and below we hope to gain speed as the demolition will be uniform. Plant Room demolition will be completed the week beginning 11th September 2006.
The access scaffold arrangements will then be remoed from the 11th floor and re-installed to allow works to continue.
