Demolition of Howard Street Bridge, Hebburn.

To facilitate the New Tyne Crossing project Thompsons have been employed to demolish the existing Howard Street Bridge situated over the southern exit of The Tyne Tunnel.

Howard Street Bridge is a one way spanning reinforced concrete pinned portal frame measuring approximately 20m supported by piled foundations.  The bridge deck varies in thickness from 686mm at centre to 1067 at support.  The works were completed under a full 36-hour road closure to the A19.  Handover back to our Client, Bouygues Travaux Publics, was achieved 6-hours early.
The works were completed by two teams consisting of 14 operatives working 12-hour shifts with an array of plant ranging from our 20-Tonne Excavators up to our 75-Tonne Komatsu High Reach.

    Highway Protection
    Earthworks to facilitate the Abutment removal
    Pre-Weakening of Bridge Deck
    Demolition of Bridge Deck, Abutments and Wing Walls
    Removal of Sheet Piles
    Removal of approximately 200Load of Concrete and 150Load of Soil within the Closure Period.
